Some Glimpse of Tihaar Festival

Some Glimpse of Tihaar Festival

Tihaar or Yamapanchak is a five-day-long festival celebrated in Nepal. This festival is also known as Deepawali in taraai region in Nepal and celebrated as a Diwali (celebrated with a bit different ways) in some states of India. In both countries as well as foreign countries this festival also known as a ‘festival of Lights and Colors’. Tihaar is the second biggest festival of Nepal. One of the major festivals of Hinduism but Buddhist people also celebrate with peace and harmony in Nepal.

Tihaar is celebrated according to the lunar calendar (between mid-October and mid-November). In five days celebration, first day is known as ‘Kaag Tihaar’ and respectively second, third, fourth, fifth day known as ‘Kukur Tihaar’, Lakshmi pooja, ‘Gobardhan pooja’ and ‘Bhaaitikaa’. Before few days of the festival starts, people clean, renovate, and decorate their houses and offices. During the festive days, they arrange the lights around their private houses, offices and temples. Here I would not like to explain in detail how people celebrate this festival in ritual ways because it needs more words to describe.

Here are some snaps of Tihaar festival which were posted on our associate facebook community group NEPAL PHOTOGALLERY by members.
